AYM Patron Jess Gillam to perform live with AYM Award Winners
On Tuesday 6 September 2022 acclaimed saxophonist Jess Gillam will take to the Hallé St. Peter’s stage for an eclectic evening in support of Awards for Young Musicians (AYM). Jess will be joined by some brilliantly talented young musicians on AYM’s Awards programme. Jess is an AYM Patron and Alumna and we’re thrilled that she’s headlining what’s sure to be a special evening. Book now to avoid disappointment.

About Jess Gillam
Hailing from Ulverston in Cumbria, Jess Gillam is animating the music world with her outstanding talent and infectious personality. She has been forging her own adventurous path since she shot to fame becoming the first saxophonist to reach the finals of BBC Young Musician and the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms. Passionate about inspiring and bringing joy to people through music, Jess invites audiences on journeys of musical discovery through her electrifying performances and exciting programming.
As well as performing around the world, Jess is a presenter on TV and Radio.
AYM and Jess
AYM supported Jess from the ages of 13 to 17, helping with the cost of her Saturday studies at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music and enabling her to access a host of musical opportunities, including performing at prestigious venues on the charity’s behalf.
In 2016, at the age of 17, Jess made history as the first saxophonist to win the Woodwind Final of BBC Young Musician of the Year. She then reached the Grand Final at London’s Barbican Hall, and performed Michael Nyman’s “Where the Bee Dances” with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, to widespread critical acclaim.
The same year she became a Patron of AYM. She joins a team of star studded Patrons including AYM alumnus Duncan Ward, Dame Evelyn Glennie CH DBE, Thomas Gould, Tasmin Little, Milos Karadaglic, Paul Lewis CBE, Shabaka Hutchings, Julian Lloyd Webber, Ksenija Sidorova and Sir Simon Rattle OM CBE.
In 2021 Jess was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for Services to Music

Hallé St Peter’s
Situated at the heart of the resurgent area of Ancoats, Hallé St Peter’s provides a home for the Hallé’s rehearsals and recordings, its choirs and Youth Orchestra, as well as a space for education workshops and small performances.
Originally opened by the Hallé’s Patron HRH The Countess of Wessex in 2013, the facility is concentrated around a restored, Grade II listed, former church. A three-storey extension, The Oglesby Centre, was opened in November 2019 and includes a number of new practice rooms and performance spaces.
The elegant interior will provide a beautiful backdrop for the evening.
