“Although I have to work hard when playing the clarinet, I enjoy doing it and I like when I can play a new piece. I feel like it is part of me.”

12 year old Bibi’s self-confidence has blossomed since she started to play the clarinet, both inside and outside of her music lessons. She used to find school quite difficult and would often come home frustrated and upset. Starting clarinet lessons, with support from AYM and The Music Partnership, has allowed her to find something that she enjoys that is just for her.

“I think my confidence has grown because I have been able to play in a school concert and I have taken part in wind band training. I have also attended music workshops and worked with different teachers and students. I can talk to the people at the workshops and I would of not have done that before. I have also spoken to professional musicians and felt confident when talking to them.”

Just before Christmas, Bibi passed her ABRSM grade 2 clarinet exam. Learning to play the clarinet has been a source of fun for Bibi and she has high hopes for where her musical journey will take her.

“I would like to continue to learn new pieces, keep working on my grades and one day play at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.”
