The Big Give Christmas Challenge Angus' Story

The Big Give – Angus’ Story

We really appreciate the opportunities Young Sounds has created and see the significant impact on Angus’s development and enjoyment.”

Angus from Staffordshire is at the very beginning of his musical journey.

Earlier this year, when he was just 6 years old, he started having violin lessons through Young Sounds’ Connect programme with The Music Partnership.

His mother says:

“Since Angus began one-to-one violin lessons, his enthusiasm for playing has grown. He’s making steady progress through his tutor book, which keeps him motivated, and he now picks up his violin almost every day.”

As well as receiving free lessons, Angus has also been able to attend musical activities which have introduced him to different instruments and genres. His mother continues:

“The  Get Togethers have been especially inspiring for Angus. He was transfixed by the cajón playing in the Joe Broughton folk workshop, and he used his bursary to buy a cajón of his own. When we listen to music at home, he leaps up and plays along. The DJing and sound-recording workshops have sparked sessions of experimentation at home too – we have long sessions on GarageBand and recording multiple tracks on our keyboard so he can play cajón along with his own music.”

Angus says:

“I like playing the violin, as it makes people smile and learning new tunes is fun. The hard bits can be annoying, but I like it when I get them right. My violin teacher Mrs Hames makes me laugh and she sometimes plays me the Star Wars theme tune. I like going to concerts, my favourite one was the Nutcracker.”

With your help, we can continue to support more young musicians like Angus so that they can lead musical lives.
