Drumming up support for Harvey – a musical gift from PMT Music

Harvey, a young drummer supported by our Furthering Talent programme in Nottinghamshire, got the surprise of his life earlier this summer. Arriving home from school he headed upstairs to find a brand new electric drum kit set up and waiting for him in his Mum’s bedroom.

Harvey, the day he received his Drum Kit

Harvey loves playing the drums but had previously only been able to practice during school time. Not being able to practice at home was frustrating and was holding him back from achieving his full potential.

Our local coordinator in Nottinghamshire, Andy Hatherley, contacted Professional Music Technology, the UK’s largest instrument retailer. He told them about the work we’re doing with Furthering Talent and about Harvey’s musical talent. Hearing this PMT kindly agreed to gift Harvey an electric drum kit. This not only means he can practice at home but can also do so through headphones, meaning he doesn’t have to worry about disturbing neighbours.

This gift has removed a big barrier to Harvey’s musical progression. As his mum put it:

“It’s brought him on amazingly with his drumming and absolutely through the roof with his confidence. He’s more confident in his drumming lessons and in himself generally. Being able to do drumming is shaping him into a different person.”

AYM would like to thank PMT for supporting Furthering Talent and Harvey. The value of this support goes far beyond the monetary cost of the item.

Here’s Harvey taking part in a Furthering Talent ‘Get Together’ event in Southwell earlier this year. He and the other students on the programme spent an afternoon with musicians from Sinfonia Viva. They worked in groups to create original compositions and performed these to parents and siblings.
