As for all young musicians, many of the activities 15 year old Kyle had planned for this year were put on pause.
“But with AYM’s support I was able to continue to take regular lessons, even during lockdown, which kept me motivated and improved my bagpiping. As of October I’m now able to start senior band rehearsals with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and I’m volunteering for an online Piping course.
“Meanwhile I’m focussing on learning Piobaireachd and light music in preparation for future competitions and piping qualification exams. I’m aiming to achieve a tutor certificate!.
“I’m looking forward to when I’m able to go on tours with my band again.”
We’re also looking forward to when musical activities can return to normal for young musicians. For now, our supporters are making sure that they can continue to take part in opportunities and keep progressing.
Kyle is a recipient of the Henry McKenzie Johnston Awards for Scottish young musicians
