AYM Alumna Trustee Mahaliah Edwards co-hosts the BBC Proms launch

On Tuesday 26 April, our Alumna Trustee Mahalia Edwards co-hosted the BBC Proms Launch event at Printworks, London. A gifted and natural speaker, this was a great opportunity for Mahaliah as part of her trainee presenter role with BBC Open Music. Commenting on the event Mahalia said:

“Co-hosting the BBC Proms 2022 launch event last night was a real career highlight and hopefully the start of many more presenting opportunities. It was great to meet people in the BBC Music world and the music industry at large”

“I love what I do. One day I’ll be in school working with children and young people, the next I’ll be hosting industry events”

Future plans with the BBC

Mae and the Open Music team will host their very own Prom on September 1st with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Conductor Kwame Ryan. This promises to be a unique and forward thinking event that merges all styles, genres and backgrounds. BBC explains:

Now, in the first ever BBC Open Music Prom, we hand over to 30 extraordinary creatives (selected from over 1,300 applicants nationwide) who’ve worked with mentors on the BBC’s new Open Music scheme, and hear what they have to say. It’s the culmination of an intensive creative process, and promises to be unlike anything heard before at the Proms. The sound of the UK in all its diversity and potential, making its voice heard right here and right now.

2022 so far

Mae has had an amazing 2022 so far; performing with Ed Sheeran at the Brit Awards and Michael Bublé on Saturday Night Takeaway! Such a brilliant start to the year. We can’t wait to see what the rest of 2022 holds for her. Well done Mae!

If you are, or know, a young musician, aged 5-17, with bags of musical potential who needs support for musical costs, AYM could help!
