The Raymi Saldaña Rojas Award 

Raymi Saldaña Rojas (2010 – 2024) was a brilliant young musician who was on Young Sounds’ Thrive programme from 2019 to 2024.

Raymi brought his whole self to his music and explored playing different genres and instruments. As well as playing the piano and flute, he played instruments from his Andean heritage including the charango. He formed two different bands with his friends, a mellow rock band Walrus and the jazz trio Dynamic Trio, and performed with his parents in the trio Sagrada Familia UK which formed during lockdown.

Lockdown hit the UK during Raymi’s’ first year with Young Sounds. He recorded a message which evoked what many young musicians were feeling at the time, and with the sense of positivity, hope and joy Raymi carried throughout his life.

Raymi was a bright part of the Young Sounds community. He was constantly striving to reach his musical potential and took every opportunity offered to him.

Raymi died in 2024 at the age of 14. The Raymi Saldaña Rojas Award has been created by Young Sounds, with the blessing of Raymi’s family, to honour his legacy and love of music. It will support talented young multi-instrumentalists on our Thrive programme who embody Raymi’s adventurous spirit and musical curiosity.
