As a Guardian Angel, Viola Bent’s generous gift will benefit a number of the most promising applicants playing stringed instruments or the piano, with a focus on the Berkshire area.
The Viola Bent Award was established in 2017. Here Viola talks about why she chose to become an Young Sounds Guardian Angel and support Young Sound’s Ambition 1000 campaign.
“I am 92 years old and my love of classical music was given to me by my late husband. We often listened to recordings when we lived for a few years in Malaysia when we were first married and my enjoyment of music grew from then onwards.
I am not an expert at all, but I love hearing music. I like all the different instruments but the cello is my favourite. When I heard about Young Sounds UK and the opportunities it gives to so many talented musicians, I realised that I would love to be able to help and support young people who are dedicated to this wonderful art form.”
Applications for this Award should be made via the normal application procedure.
