We’re delighted to introduce our first Evaluation Director – April Guasp. April will lead the development and implementation of Young Sounds’ evaluation strategy, ensuring that our work continues to be evidence-based and impactful.
Young Sounds is a reflective organisation. We’ve always invested time and effort in seeking out, understanding and demonstrating the difference our programmes are making. We believe in learning from experience. This is what we mean by evaluation.
This new role has been created with support from Purposeful Ventures, who share our drive for change. April will lead the development and implementation of Young Sounds’ evaluation strategy, further embedding evaluation across our programmes.
On the role Hester Cockcroft, Chief Executive says:
“At Young Sounds we’re committed to continual learning, and so evaluation has a vital role in informing the development of our work. April’s appointment is a game-changer for us, bringing evaluation expertise in house for the first time. We’re hugely grateful to Purposeful Ventures for investing in our future and therefore in the future of the brilliant young musicians we support.”
Nick Darbyshire, Director of Funding & Community from Purposeful Ventures says:
“We are delighted to see our support for Young Sounds contribute to the growth of their team, helping to advance their vital work with talented young musicians from low socio-economic backgrounds. Building in-house expertise in this way will ensure their impact continues to grow.”
April’s previous roles include 7 years as Stonewall’s Head of Research. Working with Stonewall’s education, health and public affairs teams and researchers including YouGov and the University of Cambridge, she has written several research reports on diverse issues concerning the lives of LGBTQ+ and Black and Ethnic Minority people. More recently, April served as Research and Impact Evaluation Manager for Deeds and Words, a consultancy working with large public, private and third sector institutions seeking cultural change.

On the role April says:
“I am delighted to be joining Young Sounds UK as Evaluation Director and to be working with such a creative and ambitious team to build further on Young Sounds’ commitment to evidence-based and impactful work.”
We are excited to welcome April to assist us as we continue to support young musicians. You can explore the strides we are already making as an organisation through our 2024 annual report here.
