Young Sounds UK is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Patrons: the Rt Hon. Baroness Harriet Harman and internationally renowned pianist and artistic director Kathryn Stott. Both bring extraordinary passion, influence, and dedication to championing music education and accessibility.

A prominent British Labour politician, Harriet Harman is known for her advocacy on gender equality and social justice. She served as MP for Camberwell and Peckham from 1982 to 2023 and held various leadership roles, including Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. In 2023, Harman was appointed to the House of Lords as Baroness Harman, marking her elevation to the peerage. A former Chair of the Board of Governors at Trinity Laban and with a daughter who is a professional bassoonist, she champions universal access to arts, arguing that all children should have the benefit of music and arts education.

One of Britain’s most cherished pianists, Kathryn has graced stages across the globe both as a soloist and in her acclaimed long-standing partnership with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. A passionate advocate for chamber music and musical exploration, she has led major festivals including the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival. Her commitment to nurturing musical curiosity and collaboration aligns deeply with our ethos.
We are honoured to work with a fantastic group of dedicated Patrons who offer valuable support: Thom Gould’s brilliant masterclass for advanced young violinists was a great example in the autumn, and in the spring Alumna Patron Jess Gillam MBE spoke passionately about the power of music and the impact of our work at the launch event for our new name.
