Young Sounds Patron Thomas Gould leads Violin Masterclass

On Sunday 22 September, four advanced violinists supported by our Thrive programme came together at Craxton Studios in London for a day of masterclasses with Young Sounds Patron Thomas Gould. Each musician worked with Thom for an hour, exploring their chosen repertoire and discussing aspects of their musical technique and musical lives. The masterclass participants were also joined by an audience of younger violinists, also supported by Thrive, who came to listen and learn from the experience.

Thomas, accompanied by pianist Ben Dawson, generously spent the day sharing tips and constructive comments on the performances before concluding with a performance and Q and A session, led by longstanding Young Sounds UK volunteer and supporter Julia Roth.

Thomas had previously delivered a series of online violin masterclasses in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 lockdown.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to participate in Thomas Gould’s masterclass. His insightful feedback on ensemble playing and musicality was incredibly valuable. This masterclass was not only educational but also deeply inspiring, and I feel more prepared for future performances. The whole experience was both challenging and motivating, and I left the masterclass feeling more confident and excited to apply what I had learned in my practice. Thank you for an inspiring experience!”

Thank you to Thomas Gould, Ben Dawson, Julia Roth, Craxton Studios and all of the young people.
