An intimate concert was hosted on Wednesday 13 September to celebrate the legacy of music making at the elegant North West London venue, The Amadeus.
Supporters joined us for a beautiful afternoon concert set amongst the former Welsh Presbyterian chapel and its charming period features. Colourfully stained glass windows flooded in light across a grand piano taking centre stage surrounded by round tables laid for afternoon tea, the perfect setting for magical performances from three very talented musicians.
Our performers for the afternoon were 14-year-old flautist Julia, 18-year-old pianist Ivan and 18-year-old cellist Haru, who played a mix of classical and modern pieces.

Julia, Ivan and Haru triumphed in displaying how legacies are helping ensure that future generations can flourish through music. All three musicians have received support from Named Awards set up by legacies or in memory gifts including The Lucy Gostwick Award, The Monica and Quintin Des Clayes Award, The Peta Martin Award, The Richard Toeman Award, and The Rose Walker Award.
Julia said:
“Having a chance to perform to a larger, unknown audience with a professional accompanist is something I don’t get to do often. I love performing but it’s always to my peers or teachers at music school. If I perform to a larger audience in a professional settings, it’s normally in an ensemble.
“At this concert, I had a chance to get to know other performers slightly older and more experienced. I also spoke to music professionals and so received a lot of positive comments on my performance from the audience. I absolutely love performing and this event was a real highlight.”
As our first legacy event we were delighted to have a wonderfully interesting talk from Guardian Angel Hywel Davies. In conversation with Chair of Young Sounds UK, Philip Jones, Hywel told us why he’s decided to leave a gift in his Will for young people to have the same musical opportunities he did.
The event finished an afternoon tea and plenty of conversations – supporters enjoyed speaking with the young musicians and sharing musical stories.
Thank you so much to Julia, Ivan and Haru and our wonderful supporters for spending this special afternoon with us!
